Blue Manchester Unity sash used circa 1949.
The Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity) was established in Melbourne in 1840.
The blue sash was worn by an ordinary branch member. Sashes were last worn in the 1940s although some Ritual Lodges still use them.
Physical Description
Sash of ribbed blue satin with embossed rose pattern. Sash has woven Manchester Unity emblem with text above and below. "FRIENDSHIP, LOVE & TRUTH" above and "MANCHESTER UNITY /of THE / INDEPENDENT ORDER / OF /ODD FELLOWS" below. Emblem is woven in white only. Sash has white border and fringe. Cotton tape fastening at side knotted.
