Summary
Mini dress designed and manufactured in Melbourne by Prue Acton P/L circa 1966.
It has possibly been shortened, as it has a large hem stitched by hand. This example was originally worn by the donor.
It was a Prue Acton innovation to design a dress based on a rugby top. According to her it was a world first. The design was inspired by cutting out kindergarten squares (coloured paper) into stripes, looking for brash bold combinations that would make the wearer stand out from the pack.
n 2016, it was loaned to the NGV for their exhibition `200 Years of Australia Fashion'.
Physical Description
Pink striped mini polo-shirt dress in knitted acrylic. Dress is long sleeved with collar and cuffs, and front buttoning bodice.
