This hat was designed and manufactured in New York by Patricia Underwood in 1988. It was worn by the donor with the navy blue suit in the Museum's collection (SH 942059) to the 1988 Derby Day.
According to the donor and other sources, she wore more somber outfits and colours to Derby Day racemeetings than to Melbourne Cup Day.
