It was taken by Melba photographers in 1930. Almost all the men are wearing a suit and tie. The men have gathered for a Y.M.C.A. inter-association tournament.

The photograph was donated by the nephew-in-law of one of the men in the photograph, Allen Hughes. Allen Hughes was a member of the Y.M.C.A in Melbourne at the time, as was his brother Owen. The brothers lived at 113 Clarke Street, Northcote.
