Sampler made by Maria Blewett, dated February 1841. She was then aged 14.
Physical Description
Cross-stitched/ embroided sampler. Brown/ hesian coloured material with painted brown wooden frame and glass. First two lines of sampler, capital alphabet are embroided in sea green; third line in beige/ light olive green, then four lines of letters and numbers in blue, green and olive, each divided by a cross- stitched border. Four lines of verse embroidered in dark brown. Underneath an ornate border of six flowers and cross-stitched pattern separates the verse from the maker's name which is stitched in the olive green coloured cotton. Bottom line has a bowl in each corner. L.C brown stitching denoting maker's age. Thick cardboard back is nailed into back of frame. Sticky tape down right edge of picture frame. Wire attached to two hooks on the back to hang sampler.
