Summary
Binding Table manufactured by Melbourne Engineering Company in 1987. It was used at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind, circa 1987-1992. This table was used by workers with impaired vision to keep mats from moving while binding the edges. The nails hold the mats in place while the outer edge of the mat is bound by the attachment of a rope plait. This is hand sewn onto the mat using coir fibre, a needle, needle puller, palm and thread holder.
Physical Description
Rectangular chipboard table on metal base. 6 rows of nails pointing upwards are attached to surface of table by metal strips across the width of the table.
