Summary
Wooden Shuttle used by visually impaired workers in the matmaking workshop at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind factory, circa 1950s-1980s. It was used on the weaving frame to pass weft strings between warp strings. David Blythe remembers that it was used in weaving 6 ft. wide hall mats and indoor cricket matting.
Physical Description
Hollowed out wooden handle shaped like a canoe but without sides. Metal rod extends lengthways down shuttle over this hollow.
