Australia Queensland
Medal - Queensland International Exhibition Gold Prize 1897
Mint: Stokes & Sons
Other Details: This is the 'gold' prize medal of the Queensland International Exhibition held in conjunction with celebrations of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. This medal was awarded to the British brewers Taylor & Co. for their exhibit of non-intoxicating beers and stout. It features a portrait of Queen Victoria crowned and wearing a long veil set against a diamond shaped background. The portrait is based on that used for the Melbourne 1888 Exhibition medals. The medal is gold plated, with the plating apparently done after the name and detail of the winner were engraved on the reverse.
