Ravenna Lewellin of 116 Chapel Street, Prahran, at the 1884 Victorian Intercolonial Exhibition of Wine, Grain, Fruit etc. Lewellin entered a painting of Back Beach, Sorrento, painted from nature, for which she won this medal, and a set of terra cotta plaques painted in oils (Official Catalogue, p.33). Her work was displayed in the 'Ladies Court'. The Victorian Intercolonial Exhibition of Wine, Grain, Fruit etc opened on 17 March 1884 and closed in April. Its patron was the Most Honorable Marquis of Normanby, James Service, MP, Premier and Treasurer of Victoria. The Exhibition included categories for Works of Art; Education, Medicine and Hygiene; Furniture and Accessories; Textile Fabrics; Raw and Manufactured Products; Machinery and Manufactures; Alimentary Products - Cereals; Preserves; Fruits; Hops; Fermented Drinks; Agriculture; Horticulture; Minerals; a Ladies Court displaying needlework, artwork, jams and fruits, pickles and sauces, breads, scones, etc.; and an Old Court, displaying historic materials relating to the history of Australia. The Official Catalogue included advertisements from some of the exhibitors.
