Medal - Adelaide Exhibition 1881 Silver Prize

The Adelaide Exhibition for the Arts and Industries opened in July 1881. This medal was won by James Edwards for his sculls. He is probably the same James Edwards who operated a boat-building company in Melbourne from around 1868, based at Princes Bridge and up to two other sites. The business also won a silver medal at the 1880-1 Melbourne International Exhibition for his display of racing boats (NU 35635) and a certificate for his display of rowlocks. In 1888 J. Edwards and Son - the same company - won a prize at the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition for 'racing boats, canoes, oars, sculls, etc' and a bronze medal for 'boats and oars'. The company continued until about 1939.
