Summary

Diary written by Lili Sigalas during a trip to North America in 1939, two thirds are written in English and one third is written in Greek. The first entry commences on the 28th May 1939, recounting Lili and Letho's departure from Melbourne on the 22nd May 1939. The diary recounts various events during their trip including meeting the Australian Davis Cup team, whom Lili described as a 'lovely lot' and visiting Los Angles with its mix of 'all the tribes of Europe'.

Lili Sigalas (nee Vrahamis), born in 1904, migrated to Australia in 1922 to marry Letho Sigalas. The couple were married at the Greek Orthodox Church on Victoria Parade, Melbourne in 1923. They had two daughters Danae in June 1924 and Magarita Babette in 1931. Lili and Letho travelled abroad together in 1930, 1939 and 1960.

Physical Description

Blue 'Embassy Reporters Note Book' with red spine and lined notepaper inside in a portrait format. There is extensive text inside the notebook, which has been handwritten in black ink in both English and Greek.
