Summary
Certificate of Introduction for Letho Sigalas from the Premier of Victoria, dated 19 May 1939. It was written for him to take on his 1939 tour, which he went on with wife Lili. Letho was the son of James Sigalas, a Greek migrant who settled in Australia in 1901 and opened the Anglo-American café in 1906, and the Centenary café, in the mid 1930s, both in Bourke Street. Letho worked in his father's café's and in 1920 was engaged to his cousin Lili Vrahamis. The couple were married in Melbourne in 1923 and had two daughters Danae in June 1924 and Magarita Babette in 1931. They moved in a very sociable set, composed of their own young Greek cousins, and had cars, sophistication and some affluence. In 1930 the family toured Europe and travelled to Greece to see Lili's parents. Letho and Lili went abroad again in 1939 and were in Greece when war was declared. Letho and Lili had a final trip abroad in 1960, before he passed away in 1964.
