Summary
Hand made marionettes depicting a group of teddy bears, referred to as The Bear Ballet. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.
Physical Description
The Bear Ballet consists of five bears all attached to one mechanism, and joined at the paw. The bears have been made out of a fur-like fabric and stuffed. Their heads are green whilst their bodies are brown. They have soft leather soles and their mouths and noses have been stiched on in thick, red thread. There are operating strings attached to numerous parts of them, including their head, limps and shoulders. The feet have been weighted.
