Summary
Carved from cuttlefish bone, this ornament is an example of handicrafts shown in the Melbourne exhibitions made from natural materials. Glass domes were a popular way of preserving arrangements. From the donor we know it was exhibited at either the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition or the 1888 Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition.
Physical Description
The ornament consists flowers carved from cuttlefish bone, with wire stems, some of the flowers have artificial stamens. The vase the flowers are arranged in is also carved from cuttlefish bone.
