Made by Richard Pearce & Co, ironmongers, Macclesfield, circa 1835. Richard Pearce was in partnership with John Dixon and Thomas Savage as ironmongers in Macclesfield during the 1830s. The business flourished during the 1830s associated with the extension of the canal into Macclesfield. By 1840 the firm, listed as operating in Macclesfield and Wolverhampton, was declared bankrupt and the company wound up.
