Summary
Pair of shoes with hide uppers and heavy leather soles studded with large tacks set on edge. Used in Spain to press very mature grapes for sherry production. The tacks served to lacerate the tough grape skins.
The shoes were donated by Museum Victoria in 1897 by Joseph Bosisto, one of the Victorian Commissioners to the 1885 Calcutta Exhibition. Further research is required to determind if they were displayed at this exhibition.
