Summary

This is a step-down transformer that reduces line voltage of 230 volts to 6.3 volts, which in turn heats the filament of a valve for the production of electrons.

One filament transformer would supply filament current for all the chasses in a cabinet, which would contain many valves. Each valve required 300 mA so the total filament current for one cabinet would be large and be distributed via heavy copper bars (busbars).

This transformer was used in Cabinet 5 (Memory). It is not known whether this was Front or Back.

The date range (1949-1964) is given to indicate that changes were made to the structure and circuitry over the period of CSIRAC's working life.
