Percussion belt pistol (converted from flintlock), cal. 29 bore (.540). Muzzle loading, smooth bore, Damascus twist barrel 6 in. (152 mm.) long, U notch backsight, nickel silver bead foresight, overall length 11 1/4 in. (286 mm).
Made by Thomas Jackson Mortimer, London, circa 1830 (active 1818-1839).
Silver monogram has motto and crest of Sir Kenneth John Mackenzie, Bart., J. P., of Gairloch, Scotland.
Physical Description
Side lock & hammer with sliding safety bolt, pierced platinum vent plug under the nipple, oval steel trigger guard. wooden stock extends to muzzle, flat grip with rounded edges, wooden ramrod with swelled brass tip, belt hook fitted to left hand side of stock.
