Summary
This combination of components was used in linear power supplies used in CSIRAC.
Capacitors of high capacitance were not manufactured at that time and so in order to produce smooth DC voltage, an inductance - capacitance combination was used.
A capacitor was a component readily available during the period of CSIRAC operating life, 1949-1964. Chokes with the right characteristics might have been built to order.
This item was removed from Unit 2 (Front Cabinet # 2).
The date range (1949-1964) is given to indicate that changes were made to the structure and circuitry over the period of CSIRAC's working life.
