Flintlock pistol, Queen Anne style, cal. 20 bore (approx. .593 in.), screw off steel smoothbore cannon barrel, 18.50cm long.
Made by Edward Turvey or one of his family, London, circa 1715.
Physical Description
Steel side lock and hammer on right hand side, pan, frizzen and frizzen spring mounted directly onto right hand side of barrel, barrel upper engraved with a boar and stag head, bow, arrow, quiver, axe and cudgel. Oval steel triggerguard engraved with shell motif slides forward to act as a safety catch when hammer is at half cock. Silver sideplate and escutcheon of military accoutremonts and shield with helmet respectively, silver grotesque butt cap on carved wooden stock, early repair to base of butt.
