Percussion pistol, pocket. cal. 37 bore (.500 in.). Muzzle loading, smooth bore, octagonal twist steel barrel 4 3/8 in. (111 mm) long, U notch backsight nickel silver foresight, overall length 9 in. (228 mm).
Marked as made by John Manton, London, but probably a Birmingham forgery, circa 1840s.
Physical Description
Box lock, side hammer, steel screw vent plug under nipple, oval steel trigger guard. Finely chequered grip with nickel silver butt grip diamond shaped monogram plate, swivel ramrod carried in rib under the barrel. Mounts engraved with foliate scrolls.
