Summary

Folding chair claimed by donor to have come from Cobb & Co.'s, change house in Heidelberg, Victoria. The chair has a wrought iron frame hinged for folding. The seat & back rest are made of wooded slats.

A manufacturer's plate on the chair identifies it as an "Easifold" design, patented and manufactured by Scarcebrook Bros of 52 Clarke Street, South Melbourne. Newspaper advertisements suggest that the chair dates from around 1925 to 1929. Sands & McDougall Directories identify he company as being in business at this address from at least 1914 to 1938. In May 1928, Scarcebrook Bros., of South Melbourne, exhibited '"Ensifold" chairs and tables, suitable for motor picnics and camping' at the Melbourne Motor Show, claiming 'The "Easifold" chair makes an excellent "dickey" seat.' (The Argus, 9 May 1928, p.14).
