Book entitled 'The Magic Lantern and its Applications' by L.H. Lundy. It was number 19 in Anthony's Photo Series published by E. & H.T. Anthony & Co., New York in 1886.
This is a scholarly work and includes information on the construction and use of magic lanterns, the different types available to users, as well as describing and discussing the various illuminants and slides. Special mention is made of the 47 illustrations included. It has extra pages at the rear containing advertisements for lanterns and lantern accessories from various companies.
This book is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.
