Colt 1848 Hartford Dragoon percussion revolver, first model, cal. .44 in., rifled round and semi octagonal barrel 188 mm (7 4/10 inch) long.
Made by Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co, Hartford, Connecticut. Serial number 2374, 1849.
Physical Description
Loading lever attached. Six chambered cylinder with no traces of cylinder scene remaining, oval cylinder stops, bladed front sight, square back brass trigger guard, steel frame, brass back strap, wooden grips, Knurling on hammer is of course style, 'V' main spring stud visible on guard strap, Barrel address is early New York address. All nipples appear to have been replaced. Colt Dragoons sold to the United States were stamped 'U.S.' below the 'COLTS/ PATENT' stamping on the left hand side of the frame.
