Summary

A large beam balance, with up to 1000 ounces troy (approximately 31.1 kg) capacity used by the Victorian Weights & Measures branch.

The balance was made by W. & T. Avery, England. They were donated to the Museum of Victoria in 1994 by the Office of Trade Measurement (formerly Weights & Measures branch).

Physical Description

Beam balance with steel knife edges and brass flat pans. The pillar can be raised and lowered with a removable hand crank. Inside a wooden and glass case with slide up doors on two sides.
