In the 1930s Norfolk served with the Home Fleet and West Indies Station. During World War II, Norfolk took part in sorties in pursuit of German warships in the North Atlantic and North Sea. In late 1940, Norfolk joined the hunting groups searching for the German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer and German auxiliary cruisers in the South Atlantic. Norfolk was placed in reserve in 1949 and broken up in 1950.
