Summary

Model of the Royal Navy D class light cruiser HMS Diomede. Construction by Vickers Armstrong was suspended after the end of the First World War but the ship was later completed in 1922. Between 1925 and 1935 Diomede served with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy and along with HMS Dunedin, her ship's company took part in rescue and relief work following the earthquake at Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in 1931 which destroyed Napier. During World War II, Diomede served in the Mediterranean and the West Indies and was converted into a training ship in 1942. She was scrapped at Dalmuir in 1946.

This model was acquired by the Museum from the model-maker Mr E.J. Krummeck in 1941 as part of a collection of naval ship models.
