Summary
Early mains powered Tuned Radio Frequency (TRF) radio. The tuning coils are very large and mounted in copper shielding cans in order to achieve a very high Q and hence get adequate selectivity with the TRF design.
Physical Description
Wooden cabinet with a sloping front. There is a thumb-wheel tuning control on the main panel and 3 knobs and two levers on a small vertical panel at the bottom of the front. The knobs are the volume control, a band switch and an aerial trimming capacitor. The two levers each rotate one of the stators of the three gang tuning capacitor through a small angle. This was done to aid 'tracking' to make sure that all three tuned circuits are tuned to exactly the same frequency over the tuning range of the receiver.
