Pamphlet, 'First Lessons on Rifle Shooting', dated 1908. The pamphlet provides instructions for using a rifle. The pamphlet object belonged to Australian Sergeant John Lord (13th Field Ambulance, Australian Medical Corps), who returned to Australia after his service in World War I, and is one of his many souvenirs.
Physical Description
This is a small book with a dark blue/black firm cover, which does not contain any inscription. Inside it offers eleven pages of text and as well as five pages to record match results. The text and diagrams are all printed in black except for the front page which is printed in blue, and the pages consist of white paper. At the beginning there is a black and white photograph of the author Sergeant-Major J.P. Byrne. The text is broken into sub sections with capitalised sub-headings. Sergeant John Lord has written his own name on the front page of the book in black ink, as well as marking some shots on the picture of the target. There are some other hand written words on the front pages that are difficult to read.

The cover of the book is blank, but the front page is entitled "First Lessons on Rifle Shooting" with smaller lettering stating: For Young Queenslanders, by JNO. P. Byrne, Ex W.O. Staff Sergt-Major for Volunteers and Dept. of Public Instruction. Price, Threepence. 1908. Outridge Printing Co., Brisbane. On the next page is a preface, as well as details of where to obtain a copy of the book. The book is then split up into subheadings including "Rifle Shooting", "Pressing the Trigger" and "On the Firing Mould".
