Summary
Alethoscope also known as a Graphoscope. Uses a single rectangular convex lens to view photographs. By means of perforations and hand colouring and the lens an impression of simulated stereoscopy is obtained. The unit is mounted on a wooden cabinet which holds the photographs. Dated 1860-1870.
A plaque on the front of the unit is marked "Graphoscope, Perfectionne, C. Naya, Venise".
Physical Description
Polished wooden object with viewing aperture and large square lens in front, several hinged doors.
