Summary

Typewriter of the typebar, front-strike class manufactured by the Remington Typewriter Company of New York, U.S.A. The Model 16 was first produced in 1932 and the serial number 'Z 549635' on this machine indicates that the year of manufacture was 1936. Although the machine is marked 'AUSTRALIAN BUILT' it is likely that it was only assembled in Australia from imported parts as there is no record of the commercial manufacture of Remington typewriters from scratch in Australia.
