Summary

Typewriter of the typebar front strike class, designed in Italy by Marcello Nizzoli and manufactured by British Olivetti Ltd in Glasgow, Scotland. This particular machine was used in the office of the Science Museum of Victoria in the 1970s and 1980s.

Physical Description

Grey-finished metal frame and covers. Cylindrical platen 18 inches (460 mm) wide. 45 typebars in horizontal semicirculsr typebasket in front of platen. Ink ribbon carried between two spools on vertical axes. Typebars and spools covered by detachable metal cover. QWERTY keyboard with 45 character keys in four rows. Shift and shift lock keys on either side of keyboard. All keys circular, grey with white lettering. Spacebar along front of keyboard. Rectangular backspace key marked with an arrow, with bar and three additional rectangular keys along top of keyboard.
