This type of engine was fitted to the Ducati 48 Piuma moped built bt Ducati Meccanica S.p.A in Bologna, Italy. The Piuma differed from a motor scooter in that it retained pedals and a more bicycle-like appearance with a stamped plate steel frame.

This single-cylinder motorcycle engine has a 38 mm bore and 42 mm stroke with a displacement of 47.63 cubic centimetres. It develops a maximum output of five horsepower at 5200 rpm. Transmission is a helical gear type with chain final drive to the rear wheel. The three-speed gearbox is built integral with the engine. Maximum speed for this light unit is around 50 km/h. This engine was donated to the Museum in 1966.
