Summary
Christmas menu for 1915, celebrated by the General Mess, HMAS Melbourne. The menu relates to the service on Stoker W.M. Sorell. The menu includes roast turkeys with sausages, chickens, hams, potatoes, peas plum pudding and sauce, mince pies, dates, figs, mixed nuts, mixed biscuits, chocolates, cigars and cigarettes.
The HMAS Melbourne was at that time undertaking patrol, escort and screening duties in the North Sea as part of the Grand Fleet.
Stoker W.M. Sorell served on HMAS Melbourne during World War I (Royal Australian Navy). Note: the name William Sorell does not appear in World War I records for anyone who was in the naval services. The names Sorrell and Sorrel have also been checked, to no avail. Further research is required.
