Land portrait 'Big Shot' camera, non-folding type, manufactured by Polaroid, U.S.A.,1971-1973.
One of the largest cameras produced by Polaroid, it is well known for its distinctive shape and unusual features; namely its fixed focus which requires the user to move in and out to establish the correct focus, sometimes referred to as the 'Big Shot shuffle'. The camera is designed to only take portrait photographs and best results are generally achieved when the flash is used. The 'Big Shot' uses a 220mm lens, requires ASA 75-100 Pack films and has a single speed shutter.
American artist Andy Warhol made the 'Big Shot' famous using it regularly for his portrait photography in the1970s.
The Polaroid Corporation was established in Massachusetts, U.S.A. in 1937. The company is best known for its instant polaroid cameras that were first sold in the late 1940s.
