Summary

Photograph adhered to paper, and enlargement showing pins that held the original during reproduction, depicting Australian servicemen of the 24th Battalion gathered at the dedication of a memorial at Pozieres, France, in August 1917.

The memorial was erected to mark the resting place of the officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks who were killed in the fighting which took place there in the summer of 1916, during the Battle of the Somme.

The photograph is the same as one held by the Australian War Memorial, described as 'Colonel James addressing troops of the 24th Battalion around the memorial erected in memory of members killed at Pozieres and Mouquet farm', reg. no. J03245.
