Summary
Souvenir handkerchief or dressing table mat. Probably sent home from France by Private Vincent Hayes, 58th Battalion, AIF, service number 3644. Hayes enlisted in January 1918 and survived the war, but returned to Australia in early 1919 disabled, with a gunshot wound to his chest received in France.

Pink silk square with embroidered rising sun badge and forget-me-nots flowers in corner and fine white lace borders 42 mm wide.
