Summary
Ladies' wrist watch, gold octagonal case, Rolex, no 1085380, 1923. Metal band is a replacement of later date.
Engraving on rear of case 'ECW 25.12.23'
This watch was the first gift of W.H. Sherriff, land surveyor with the Victorian Railways, to Edna Clarice Wills, ledger poster with Henry Berry, wholesale grocers, both of Caulfield, at Christmas 1923. He presented it to her saying 'I won't get you an engagement ring until your twenty-first birthday', which was still three months away. This was his way of proposing to his future wife. They married on 28 October 1924, and lived in Glen Iris. She wore the watch until 1957, when she wore a new watch (see ST 41880).
Physical Description
