Berliner 7 inch single-sided shellac disc (USA). Lateral cut, manufactured by E. Berliner's Grammophon, 1896-1900. Contents: 'The Mocking Bird', whistled by Harry Taft. Classification: Popular Novelty.
First patents were taken out in Europe, US patents 1895, 1896. Off-centre small hole was drilled to lock into a pin on the turntable? Later, turntable was cobered with felt to stop disc slipping between turntable and needle.
