Summary
Aircraft History:
In 1848, John Stringfellow built an experimental model aeroplane powered by a small steam engine. He flew this model along an inclined wire inside a tent in Cremorne Gardens, London and continued to build a number of models until the late 1860s.
Model History:
This 1:32 scale model of Stringfellow's 1848 model was donated to the Museum in 1953.
