Summary

1:32 scale model of a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 commissioned by the Museum and built by Mr R. Ramsay in 1953. The MiG-15 jet fighter was developed by Artem Mikoyan & Mikhail Gurevich for the Soviet Union, making its first test flights in 1947, with first production example taking to the air on 31 December 1948. It was one of the first successful jet fighters to incorporate swept wings to achieve high transonic speeds and in aerial combat during the Korean War it outclassed earlier straight-winged jet fighter designs. As the MiG-15 had only just come to public attention during the Korean War, the Museum was apparently keen to exhibit a model of the then latest advances in jet fighter technology for its 'Jubilee of Flight' exhibition in 1953, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wright Brothers pioneering flight.

Physical Description
