Summary
This 1:32 scale model of a RAAF Mirage IIIO was built for the Museum under contract by Mr R.D Ramsay and was received in 1965. It is painted in the initial RAAF silver finish, which was later replaced by camouflage.
The Dassault Mirage III was the first Western European combat aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in horizontal flight, which it first achieved on 24 October 1958. While the inital RAAF Mirage aircraft were built in France and assembled in Australia, subsequent aircraft had decreasing proportions of French components, gradually transitioning to fully Australian-built Mirage aircraft. The final Avalon-built Mirage IIIO (A3-100) was delivered to the RAAF in December 1968.
Physical Description
Plastic model aeroplane painted silver with red stripes and red, white and blue bulleyes on the wings. There is a large jet at the back of the aeroplane and the nose comes to a long point. There is a missle painted white underneath.
