Summary

Australian Comforts Fund Christmas card bearing an illustration of the planting of the Australian flag on Anzac Redoubt (German Pill-box) on 20 September 1917, during the Battle of Polygon Wood (Belgium). The back of the card bears a printed greeting, a caption for the illustration and a handwritten message 'To Gordie from Will', dated 2 May 1918.

Polygon Wood, and the nearby Glencourse Wood, were destroyed in 1917, during the Battle of Menin Road. They had also been the site of earlier fierce fighting during World War I.
