Summary

Postcard from a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Moulmein, Burma. Sent by Private William Murphy, who was imprisoned in 1942-1943. He died of illness on 22 August 1943.

Part of a collection of material donated to Museum Victoria in 1988 by Miss Ida Murphy in memory of her brother William Murphy and her uncle Edward Pummeroy, who was killed during World War I.

Off-white postcard, printed on one side with extensive text beginning 'IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY. / I am still in a P.O. W. Camp near Moulmein, Burma...', with a space for a signature at the bottom - signed here 'W. Murphy'. The other side of the postcard is printed with Murphy's details and is addressed to Mrs. E. Murphy. It has been marked with two red stamps in Japanese, and a diamond-shaped stamp in purple '3 / PASSED / BY / ...OR / 372'.
