I. B. M. Model 5103 dot- matrix impact printer for connection to IBM 5100 computer system, Typical heavy-duty printer for its period. Made by I. B. M. (International Business Machines) in Brazil, about 1975.
Printing speed up to 120 characters per second. Characters formed by a column of 8 dots moved horizontaly across the paper.
Physical Description
Grey metal case with two knobs on right side. Clear plastic paper guide on top where paper is loaded and emerges after printing. Slots on top for attaching sprocket feed mechanism. Data cable emerges at rear right corner, and is terminated in a box with three connectors. Printer has broad platen and paper directing removable accessory. Printer switching box (from one computer to another) is attached at end of long flat cable. 240 volt mains-powered. Sprocket feed mechanism for IBM5103 printer. Beige plastic end pieces with sprocket feed mechanism attached to horizontal shafts which are driven by a gear which protrudes from the bottom. Chrome wire paper guide at rear.
