Summary
Painted iron wall clock, made in Holland, 18th century. Lantern clock style movement with decorative metal face surround and pendulum in front of face.
Bernard Hall, Director of the National Gallery of Victoria from 1892-1934, assessed the painting on the clock face as being Italian and of a good standard.
Physical Description
Iron case with a hand- painted face. Pendulum is in front of the face. Hands and button attaching pendulum are gilded by the old method of applying a gold amalgam and driving off mercury. Two bells: one for hours; other for quarters. Weight driven; verge escapement.
