Summary
The Benz 230 horsepower aero engine was developed by Benz & Cie in Mannheim, Germany in 1916. It has the standard configuration of Benz six cylinder, liquid-cooled aero engines which were made in a variety of power outputs including 180 horsepower units used on Pfalz and Albatros fighter aircraft. The 230 horsepower version was used mostly on German bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. Sectioned.
The engine was sectioned by an external constractor for the Air Transport display in McArthur Hall that opened in March 1970 as part of the Museum's centenary celebrations,
