Government Printing Office Handicap cup 1864-1867. Made by William Edwards of Melbourne in sterling silver.
Victorian Volunteer Forces in the second half of the 19th century engaged in regular competitions and prize-giving. Shooting competitions provided the opportunities for training, camaraderie and recreation.
Physical Description
Ovoid body chased on one side with the government printing office, Melbourne. On the other side a volunteers' camp scene with two tents and six volunteers in uniform, one in the kneeling firing position aiming a percussion carbine. The cup is mounted on three piled percussion carbines encircled by a wreath of laurels, and mounted on a circular base.
