Summary

Ceramic bowl flush toilet with elevated wall-mounted cast-iron cistern. Also rusted iron frame which originally supported a timber seat.

Removed from a former workers' toilet in the courtyard of the Phoenix Clothing Factory at 347a King Street, Melbourne, when the building was being refurbished in 1997.

This toilet is of the original type approved for use by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Board of Works during the 1890s and is believed to have been installed at the phoenix clothing factory site in about 1899 when the Melbourne central business district was first sewered.

Ceramic bowl flush toilet with elevated wall-mounted cast-iron cistern. Lever and chain operated. Two-gallon capacity. Also rusted iron frame which originally supported a timber seat.
