Large photographic print of an experimental powered aeroplane model built by Lawrence Hargrave.
Photograph depicts Hargraves' flying machine number 5 dated to 8/4/1890 which was powered by a single cylinder compressed air vibrating tin engine number 10. This model flew 368 feet at a speed of 13 mph. The original was donated to the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1891 and survives in the Powerhouse Museum collection.
Photograph is thought to have been taken by Sydney photographer Charles Bayliss.

Sepia print showing a port side elevation of display mounted model with handwritten caption and compression pump. Photograph depicts a compressed air flapper driven flying machine very similar in appearance to Hargraves's sixth such model.
